H.E. The Governors Speech During The Official Opening Of Nteere Mbogori Park On 25/11/2013

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you all today in yet another achievement of our county when we are opening the first recreation park. It is indeed pleasing to be associated with this green environment in the central business district of Meru town and to affirm our commitment of making Meru a Green and Clean County"

I must appreciate the brilliant thoughts behind the creation of this park and more so the visionary leaders who fought to preserve the land on which this magnificent beauty sits.

It is worth noting that recreation parks offer countless benefits to residents, fortunate enough to have them in their neighborhoods such as this one today. They serve as an affordable place for people to exercise, enjoy nature, and most importantly spend time with their family and friends. In addition, people living in towns with parks and recreation centers feel a stronger sense of community than those living in areas without these facilities.

This recreation park is purely for public use and I therefore call upon all of us to use this facility for good intentions and foster oneness and embrace a sense of belonging. Further, may I reiterate my commitment to ensure full security round the clock for the public using this facility. This will be similar to Uhuru Park, City Park and Javanjee gardens in Nairobi. Plans are underway to ensure every sub county headquarter has a similar park.

In the near future plans are underway to establish a beautiful food café and a few other service facilities inside here; much of the land remains undeveloped, we also plan to have a big dam or lake with boats, and other games for all generations such that whenever one is in Meru county you will not remember or wish to be in any other town, I also welcome your views and suggestions on how we can develop the remaining part of this beautiful garden.

It has come to my attention that most of the public land within the county reserved for social amenities has since been grabbed. I put to notice such people within us to surrender all government land to enhance and promote development.

We need land now and in future, and therefore call upon selfless people who are generous enough to donate land, not those thinking on how to grab the available land leaving nothing for future development and expansion.

We have a new digital planning for Meru town and its surrounding. It is in our plans that immediately after the rains we will commence construction of new by passes and link roads that will help ease congestion in the town and make it more attractive. May I appeal for your cooperation to make this dream a success.

Further, we have planned and received donation for a new sewerline for Milimani, Makutano and Kaaga areas which will greatly improve hygiene and service to the residents of those estates. Additionally we have received funding from Malaysian government to tarmac 300 km roads within our county besides automating our revenue collection processes. These initiatives will greatly improve our county economically and enhance efficiency.

Recently the Meru county government rolled out the Street Children Initiative pogramme that saw rounding up of all the street children/families to a rehabilitation/vocational centre. This initiative aimed at affording them decent and gainful life thereafter. These are just a few of the programmes that we have embarked on for our people in all sectors.

I once more thank you for coming and supporting the County Government of Meru.

Finally May I thank the Ministry of Environment, NEMA and town management committee for their efforts and resources in creating and beautifying the park.

God bless you all.
