H.E. Peter Munya, The Governor

Peter Munya was sworn in as the first governor of Meru County on 27th March 2013.

In 2002, Hon. Munya was elected to the Kenya National Assembly as a Member of Parliament for Tigania East where he served for two terms until 2013 when he contested and won the gubernatorial seat for Meru County. In parliament he served as a member of the public investments committee (PIC) and the Health Club management committee.

In 2006 he was appointed an Assistant Minister; Ministry for Internal Security and Provincial Administration. In the 9th Parliament, he founded and chaired Kenya Young Parliamentarians Association with the aim of championing issues affecting Kenyan youth in Parliament. He taught law at Moi University- Eldoret, Kenya School of Monetary Studies (KSMS) and Kenya School of Professional Studies (KSPS)

Hon. Munya received his undergraduate degree from the University of Nairobi and his first Master’s in International Law from the University of Brussels and the second master’s in Public International Law from University of Georgia in USA.
