AGAINST ALL ODDS: HOW CONSTRUCTION OF PROBASE ROADS IN MERU BECAME A REALITY.

When Governor Munya assumed office in 2013 he was well aware Infrastructure is the backbone of any growing economy. He had aspired to set Meru County on the growth path. Sadly the sector was underfunded making it impossible to embark on ambitious infrastructural projects. Due to his urge to enhance connectivity within the county he identified Probase Manufacturing Sdn.Bhd, a Malaysian company to build Meru roads to Probase standards at a cheaper cost - 30M per Kilometer.
On 6th September in a ceremony graced by other Governors Benjamin Cheboi - Baringo,Wyclife Oparanya - Kakamega and Issac Ruto - Bomet The Probase Manufacturing of Malaysia and Meru County signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for construction of Kianjai - Miathene 10km pilot Road. Meru had made her first step of a journey of thousand miles through a stroke of the pen.
The MOU entailed after successful completion of the 10km pilot project, Probase Manufacturing be contracted to undertake further 300km road stretch within the county. During the construction of the revolutionary pilot project, it was thought Governor Munya had cemented his legacy with the road built in backyard of a politician he had floored in the previous elections. Their propaganda machinery went into overdrive to smear the new technology. The negative voices were finally silenced when the Governor eventually commissioned the road for public use.
The County Government has embarked on 150Km project set to reinvigorate existing market centers situated on the routes set to benefit from the Probase project. Suffice to say Meru County will reap immense benefits by investing in cheaper quality roads network. In fact the County will gain six times on every unit of investment on roads development. In a nutshell Probase technology became a game changer in road construction in the region. This 150km project will contribute to the growth of the economy and lowering of the cost of doing business in Meru County.
