Pay taxes, Residents told

Over the last three financial years, revenue collection has dipped by an estimated Sh15million, a factor partly attributable to the former governor's directive to suspend levies on some sectors of the economy during the period running up to the August polls. This decision has hurt our financial position as a county, with key services currently struggling. To this end, we have reached a collective consensus to resume those levies with immediate effect. This is the only way that key services will be afforded to the masses. Further, I have communicated plans to adopt a cash-less, digital revenue collection platform that will seal revenue leakages and ensure that whatever is collected is put into good use rather than end up in the pockets of a few fraudulent officials. Some of the fees whose suspension is lifted hereupon include: a) Produce Market Fees b) Daily Parking Fees c) Seasonal Parking Fees d) Cess e) Single Business Permit Licence f) Land Rates and Plot Rates g) Building Plans Approval Fees, and h) All other fees and charges as per the Meru County Finance Act, 2014. Let me however reiterate that my administration does not harbour any proposals to implement any new levies other than those already in effect. Thanks for your cooperation as we bid to Make Meru Great!
