The Kinoru Stadium has been approved for enhanced refurbishments ready to host January 2018 Africa Home Nations Championships (Chan) after renovations by Meru County government to International standards.

According to Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Nick Mwendwa who led a delegation of CAF officials for an inspection tour to the facility, the Phase two work of the project has been tendered by Sports Kenya and Local organizing committee of the Cup of Nations.

"The tender has gone out today but I do not know the total expense figures because we will wait for the cheapest bidder. As FKF and CAF we are impressed by the positive progress made by County government, actually they have done more than we requested them to do," Mwendwa said.

The phase two work in the stadium involves lighting up the whole stadium, extension and separation of the VIP lounge and dais, Media Centre refurbishment, offices and the parking areas which will be completed at the end of October.

Mwendwa said Kinoru face-lift was to be done in two phases with the first done by the County government and will end in mid-July thus commencement of next phase.

"Group D teams of the CHAN matches will be played in the stadium once the second phase of the renovation will be over and the field reopened," he added.

County Executive for sports Joy Muriungi said Sofapaka is expected to play against Gor Mahia FC this Sunday June 18th at the venue.

"We have matches every weekend and on 25th or 2nd July Tusker FC will be hosting another match in the stadium," she said.
