Kiraitu plans for the former Meru County Hotel Building
MERU ----- The building that housed the defunct Meru County Hotel will be redeveloped into a grade A office block that will house the County Government of Meru and its entities. The government currently pays rent for various offices occupied by several departments. Governor Kiraitu Murungi made the announcement on Wednesday when he toured the facility in the company of the contractor and the consultants who had been awarded the tender to renovate the hotel by the previous regime.
The contractor has completed around 36 percent of the work. "The change into office blocks is more lucrative than competing with private investors in the hospitality sector who have put up good hotels in Meru town lately. It makes more sense for the government to lease space from its investment arm MCDIC than getting scattered space outside," said the Governor. The Governor gave the client - MCDIC, the contractor and consultants a go-ahead to meet and formulate a report on the new changes and timelines on the project. ‘’Our new administration will be guided by prudent use of public resources,’’ Kiraitu added . Kiraitu was accompanied by his Deputy Governor TITUS Ntuchiu and several County Government officials.
