AFA opens office in Maua, to protect Miraa

Governor Kiraitu Murungi presided over the opening of Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) offices in Maua town on Saturday. The establishment of the office is one of the efforts to safeguard the welfare of the Miraa crop, following recognition by the national government of the plant as a cash crop. Key stakeholders from the Ministry of Agriculture as well as legislative leaders from the Miraa-growing zones were present, in a day where ways were explored to end the exploitation of Miraa farmers. Standardization of Miraa prices was fronted as a mitigation measure, to ensure farmers are not exploited into selling their product on the cheap even when the crop is in high supply, usually during the rainy season. The Governor emphasized his government commitment to modernize agriculture to improve locals earnings
