Meru Government, Lewa Conservancy Mou To Spur Up Cross Sector Development.
H.E Governor Bishop Kawira Mwangaza visited Lewa Conservancy where she was received by the CEO Mike Watson, during the official opening of a laboratory and a maternity wing for a clinic supported by the conservancy.
Her Excellency also signed a Memorandum of Understanding on collaborative areas with the conservancy that spans from health, education, conservation, agriculture and water.
Currently, Governor's administration in conjunction with the conservancy, have commenced the construction of a mega water dam of 150 million cubic metres that will support surrounding communities, and also establish a Bongo sanctuary inside the Mt Kenya Forest.
The organization is also supporting digital literacy in schools and given scholarships to over 1000 students in various secondary schools, through their annual support to 35 students, besides giving 25 schools an infrastructure support.The conservancy is also supporting 4 clinics, complementing county government work.
Governor Kawira is in agreement with the management on their support in setting up any other conservancy in Meru on request, among them the Nyambene conservancy that is being established.The Government continues to encourage more private partnerships that will steer the county forward.
