The Makutano stage (formerly Makutano market) has been officially opened today, under the directive of H.E Governor Bishop Kawira Mwangaza, by Ag. Chief Officer Department of Trade, Investments, Industrialization, Tourism & Cooperatives Mr. Mugambi Sandi, in the company of Municipal Manager Mr. Gitobu Nkanata and Municipal MCA Hon. Caleb Mutethia.

Mr. Mugambi passed Her Excellency's message that all relevant stakeholders should work together to bring order and organization in the city, as the municipality aims to become the fifth city in the republic of Kenya. In his speech, he urged all matatu and taxi operators to cooperate with the county government and operate from their designated stages to ensure order and sanity on the roads. He also cautioned them against roadside picking of passengers.

Hon. Caleb Mutethia commended Her Excellency's administration for great efforts to modernize and clean the city.

The event was attended by Meru Matatu Owners Association Chairman Silas Muthuri and the Secretary Joseph Bundi.
