I SHALL DEFEND AND PROTECT DEVOLUTION
Residents of Meru County, friends of County Governments, esteemed partners, ladies and gentlemen. I take this opportunity to thank you for the support you have accorded county governments and the overwhelming goodwill you have shown to us as we strive to make devolution succeed.
I thank my colleagues in the Council of Governors - the Governors of the 47 counties for showing tremendous trust and confidence in me to lead the esteemed council for the next two years. The last two years of devolution have been tumultuous with varied competing interests in the fight for and against the success of devolution.
It is highly unlikely that going forward it will be any different in view of recent unfortunate calls by some legislators to revert the health function to the national government. I however wish to confirm to friends of devolution and those who mean well for equitable distribution of resources in this country that l shall not relent or waver in defending devolution for the good of this country.
My singular message to wananchi is that devolution shall flourish under my leadership and the gains realized so far shall be strengthened, anchored on the vision of improving the well being of the people of Kenya through devolution of functions and resources to the people.
