By Mutugi Seth, Thursday ,September 17, 2015 -

The Reading Culture initiative is the First Lady's effort to inspire young students in Meru to become engaged and motivated readers.

The first lady Phoebe Munya on Thursday donated reading books to The Kenya National Library of Kenya Meru Branch during a reading aloud event held at the premises. The event that took place as the teachers strike bites countrywide. The library officials said during the strike young learners have showed increased interest in the books at their facility.

"The importance of students reading for pleasure is to develop literacy skills and academic achievement," she said.

Education Executive Hellen Nangithia said the First Lady has been supportive to the department, and they will work with her office for prosperity of our children
