The County Government of Meru is releasing Sh. 135 million for bursaries in the entire County and 92 students will be awarded scholarships from form one to four this year.

The chief officer for Education and Technology David Bariu said the county government has set aside Sh. 3 million for each of the 45 wards and slots for 92 more students in the scholarship program that started last year. "We have so far distributed Sh. 360 million and this year we are giving out Sh. 130 million as bursaries kitty.

The scholarship program that was initiated by Governor Peter Munya has sponsored two bright but needy students in every ward and we are enrolling 90 more students to the program this year," he said.

According to Baariu the initiative has saved students from poor backgrounds from perpetual absenteeism and school drop outs cases across the county.

"We are targeting the bright but needy in our community to study. The program has helped so many vulnerable students in the society," he said.

Bariu who spoke during a Meru FM show called upon parents to take advantage of the Technical training center and Polytechnics to realize vision 2030.

"Vision 2030 cannot be implanted by white color jobs only but through the middle-level skills. Not Engineers but people working in the Blue color jobs. Let our children take advantage. We have one National polytechnic (Meru Polytechnic) and several others like Karumo, Kiirua, Nkabune and Mitunguu." he said.

He said the county has extended the scholarships to the Vocational Training institutions and given fifty scholarships to learners.

"We have given 50 students in our polytechnics scholarships and we will be issuing shillings eight thousand to every learner in terms of bursaries," he added
