The Meru County Monitoring and Evaluation directorate has reported that development projects being implemented are above average which rates the county among the best performing in project implementation in the country.
According to director Dr. Paul Mugambi the county has achieved most of the development projects that were identified for implementation.
The directorate checks the validity of projects under implementation and makes follow ups on them frequently issuing a certificate of completion once a project is accomplished.
This helps the governor to monitor all the projects that take place in the county and also helps to monitor the activities of other departments which aids in rating their performance annually.
The directorate further checks the cost effectiveness of all projects, their budgets, actual cost and the speed of implementation of the project.
"We are tasked with the mandate of preparing performance contracts and performance appraisals for all employees in the county. We also follow up on the governor’s field directives so that the people of Meru County can witness development and infrastructure at the grassroots", said Mugambi.
He added that performance contracts for the top three levels of government which include the Governor, County Executives Committee Members, Chief Officers and the Directors are monitored annually to check whether they are achieving the set goals.
The directorate also monitors the challenges experienced by county staff and its reports are submitted to the inspection and acceptance committee which verifies reports on completed, existing and future project.
These reports are presented to the county cabinet which tracks the implementation process and makes final decision and gives advice where necessary.
