KOBIA ROOTS FOR RESEARCH BASED HEALTH SYSTEMS
Health Executive Eunice Kobia is calling for increased research to improve maternal healthcare. She the County Government will continue working with various partners to deliver quality healthcare to the citizens.
She was speaking at a workshop held at Meru Town to review the results and best practices of post-pregnancy family planning project financed Jhpiego. The participants were also trained on the latest methods, from fertility awareness, such as the lactational amenorrhea method (LAM); methods a woman can self-administer or receive from a lay health worker, such as subcutaneous injectables; long-acting and reversible contraceptives, such as intrauterine devices (IUDs) and implants; to permanent methods such as male and female sterilization.
She cited upward intake of up to 16000 implants and 37 intrauterine devices (IUDs) for the six months the programme has been running in 11 health facilities. She also said plans are underway to extend the programme to more facilities.
