First Lady Priscilla Murungi Launches Menstrual Health Management Programme
The First Lady, Priscilla Murungi today officially launched a menstrual health programme aimed at empowering socially. The initiative which seeks to support school girls commonly disrupted from learning due to lack of sanitary is fronted by the County First Ladies Association in partnership with African Cotton Industries, Kenya Commercial Bank, Kenya Red Cross and Helping Hands Ambassadors.
The programme also targets improved access to sanitation facilities, adolescent sexual health education, adolescent nutrition education, mentorship, life skills development and policy influence.
She also reaffirmed her commitment towards social, economic and political empowerment of Meru women through Twaweza Programme which is her brainchild.
The First Lady also vowed to eliminate oppressive cultures which lead to retrogressive practices like Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and early marriages to preserve dignity to the girl child.
Governor Kiraitu Murungi who was also present at the launch held at the County Headquarters promised to continue supporting efforts to empower women in line with his campaign manifesto.
Later on, Mrs Murungi visited Athiru Gaiti, Amugaa and Makandune Primary Schools in Igembe South, Tigania East and Central Imenti sub-counties respectively to engage school going girls and donate sanitary pads.
