Meru county first lady madam priscilla Murungi officiated the launch of meru women legislative association (MEWOLA) five years strategic plan.

MEWOLA, provides unique platform for the women in the county assembly to exercise their constitutional mandate to the fullest, not only for their personal political career growth but for the well-being of the people they represent.

Speaking during the event, madam priscilla who is also the patron of the twaweza program thanked the meru women legislatures for being the second county to launch the strategic plan after nyeri county.

"I want to thank the meru women legislature for making such a big step, as a patron of twaweza am promising my full support and we will work together to empower the women of our county in all aspect," madam murungi noted.

"we need to empower women socially, politically and economically from the grass root because they are biggest supporter of our society, lets women know their rights so that we can have a successful nation," she added.

The first lady noted that the cases of FGM have been rampant in some areas especially during this long holiday. He urged the parents to take good care of their children especially the girl because they poses more risk than their counter parts.

Governor Kiraitu who accompanied the first lady, promised that his administration will continue to empower women across the county through Twaweza and other programs.

"Empowering a woman is empowering the community, I therefore want to thank the meru county women legislature for this initiative and as a government we will support them," murungi noted.

Deputy governor, hon Titus Ntuchiu on his part said that empowering women will make the journey of making meru great easy. He urged the women legislature to extend the cucus to other women at the villages.

CEC for education, technology and gender madam linner kailanya, said that her department will support the plan.
