The inaugural edition of the Meru County Marathon was held on Sunday morning 29th September 2013 at the Kinoru Stadium. The marathon attracted more than 2,000 participants and set a prize tag of 1 million shillings for the winners in both men and women categories. This makes it one of the richest prize money marathons in the country.
