MERU LEVEL 5 HOSPITAL RANKED AMONG THE BEST ON THE UTILITY OF MEDICAL EQUIPMENT .

The Senate Committee on Health has ranked Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital among the best across the country, on utilization of Medical Equipment which was launched by the National Government and leased to counties in 2015 through the Medical Equipment Service (MES) Project.

The Committee was in Meru County as part of their familiarization tour of the state of the leased equipment. They were welcomed to Meru Level 5 Hospital by County Executive for Health, Misheck Mutuma M’Muyuri.

The delegation, led by chair Hon. Fatuma Dullo of Isiolo County, comprised of Hon. Moses Masika Wetangula of Bungoma, Hon Christopher Lagat of Bomet and Hon Mary Yiene. Meru Senator Hon. Mithika Linturi also accompanied the Committee.

Senator Wetangula, noted that when the equipment was delivered for most counties in 2015, there lacked a needs assessment enquiry, which may not have been very appropriate.

"Each county is spending approximately Sh200 million on the lease annually, and we are glad Meru has made optimal use of the equipment," said Hon Wetangula.

Senators Linturi and Dullo noted the necessity of carrying out a needs assessment by the national government, before any such massive investment as the medical equipment is imposed on the devolved governments.

"We also want to congratulate the County Government of Meru for the ongoing constructing of the new block to house the ICU, which will give value for money to the leased medical equipment, "added Senator Mithika.

Also present were the Chief Officer for Health Dr. Kanana Kimonye and the Hospital CEO Dr. James Kirimi.
