Meru Governor, H.E. Kiraitu Murungi has challenged the Ministry of Sports to ensure remaining works on Kinoru Stadium are completed with speed for Meru County residents to start enjoying the use of the facility for talent search, growth and development there.

While speaking at the Stadium where he was an invited guest to an event convened by Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs Prof. Margaret Kobia in partnership with Spread Truth Africa NGO, the Governor said that his administration is focused on Making Meru County a choice destination for sporting events in the country, and completion of upgraded Kinoru Stadium will play a crucial role in the achievement of that agenda.

He cited successful 2019 KCB Kenya National Rally Championship which was held in Meru Yesterday, the 4 by 4 Challenge held in June, and the upcoming Mt. Kenya Mountain Marathon in February next year, which will be the first in Africa.

"The dream of upgrading this stadium was born from the best models of the world stadia in Brazil, where my good friend PS Kirimi Kaberia of Sports who is here today, and myself, had visited back then. We had agreed to ensure Kinoru is modernized to such standards and I believe in his current capacity, he will expedite the process of completion to get us there, " said Governor Kiraitu.

In response, PS Kaberia pledged to do more to ensure the Stadium is completed.

Governor Kiraitu also praised Prof. Margaret Kobia for her ongoing efforts to empower youth and women of Meru through Youth and Women Enterprise Fund. He said Prof. Kobia is a great role model of humility and handwork to the people of Meru, and challenged other sons and daughters of the County in high positions of leadership to emulate her in delivering more for the people.

During the function, Sh18 Million worth of cheques were issued to various youth groups from across the County.
