NEW YEARS PROSPECTS AS COUNTY STAFF ATTEND END YEAR MEETING

Meru Governor, Kiraitu Murungi and his Deputy Hon. Titus Ntuchiu led all the County Government Staff members to a thanksgiving ceremony at Kinoru Stadium, to mark the end year's accomplishments.

The governor who was happy to report the tremendous strides his administration has made since his election, said he has delivered on the promises he made, notably, the formation of a people’s Government.

"I wanted Meru government to be people owned. A government of the people, for the people and by the people. This is why I developed various structures for an inclusive governance of Meru, from the top leadership through Sub county to the ward levels.

He promised to capitalize on staff development in order to equip them with the best requisite skills to serve the people of Meru by doing their best better.

He pronounced that his government April next year, will recruit 1000 more MYS as an enhanced ultimate solution to youth’s challenges in Meru. This will be done by prioritizing on the less fortunate to enable Meru youth to also take part in the construction works in the county and benefit from the government contracts.

He equally added that he is investing more on cultural, safaris as well as mountain tourism to increase the county’s income

While agriculture has been one of Meru priority for enhanced food security, Kiraitu pointed out that next year he will embark on trainings and organization of farmers. The county is putting up a 1000 capacity training facility at Kaguru FTC to aid on this.

To increase fruit farming, he said he want to be remembered for introducing 1million macadamia and 1 million avocados plant population on top of what we have today.

On provision of water, he said the remaining boreholes out of the promised 100 during the last Financial, year will be complete in few weeks’ time. Majority of boreholes were drilled in Nyambene region, with 400 water pans done in Buuri and Tigania. 300 more will be done next year. He said Imenti region will benefit with at least one water project per Ward.

Deputy Governor Hon. Ntuchiu said it is through God’s favor that various projects with the departments through Ward Development Fund have been undertaken.

He noted that recently the executive signed performance contracts so as to enhance efficiency in service delivery and that this will be extended to other job cadres.

"As we approach a new year, let us double our efforts to make Meru Great. Let's also reflect back on how you've been performing and do your best." Said the deputy Governor.

First Lady, Priscilla Murungi called for team spirit working for the public, saying she is more determined to transform the women of Meru through Twaweza program launched June this year.

She said the sub county empowerment training are underway and will soon get to the village level for people’s involvement.

Notably, the County Secretary, Dr. Rufus Miriti, Chief of Staff, Gideon Kimathi, CECs, Chief Officers and various heads of corporations and departments, collectively reported on various achievements they have realized.
