JOY AS TIMAU TRADERS ARE RESCUED FROM DRAINAGE NIGHTMARE

Traders in Timau market have something to smile about, as the new cabro project recently launched by Governor Kiraitu Murungi finally comes to completion. Business owners and residents expressed joy and happiness, as they narrated the horrors they have always encountered every rainy season, where flood water from upper Mt. Kenya and Nanyuki environs wreaked havoc destroying businesses and property of unquantifiable value.

"Running a beauty shop like mine has really been difficult here, because of the heavy clouds of dust during the dry season and flood waters and the mud during the rains. We are very thankful to our Governor Hon. Kiraitu Murungi for this landmark project and we can now see increased customer flow," said a visibly happy Ms. Florence Karambu Gitonga, owner of Bush Beauty Centre.

Another trader, Mr. Eric Kirimi of God’s Favour Boutique, narrated how at one point he was forced to close down his shop for months after flooding which destroyed his stocks and portions of his shop. Mr. Kirimi said that after the cabro upgrade and the new state of the art drainage system, such troubles belong to the past. He praised Governor Kiraitu’s efforts in Making Meru Great through such projects.

The County site engineer, Eng. Josephine Nkatha noted that the project is 80% done and it is expected to be completed and ready for official launch in the coming few days. The County Department of Roads is carrying out such projects in several other markets across the County including Kiengu, Laare, Nchiru, among others.
