H.E. HON. REV. ISAAC MUTUMA M'ETHINGIA HOSTS KENYA COOPERATIVE COFFEE EXPORTERS CEO, DR. JANE KATHUKU IN A BID TO ENHANCE COFFEE PRODUCTION IN THE COUNTY.
Coffee farming is resurging as a key economic driver in Meru County. This was underscored during a meeting between Governor H.E. Hon. Rev. Mutuma M’Ethingia and Kenya Cooperative Coffee Exporters CEO Dr. Jane Kathuku. They discussed strategies to enhance coffee production, boost productivity, and improve marketing. A clear framework was emphasized to grow Meru’s GDP through better farming methods and supportive coffee sector policies.
Still, farmers face challenges like low prices, theft, poor management, and middlemen exploitation. Governor M’Ethingia reaffirmed support for cooperatives, value addition, and direct farmer-buyer links. The county will also increase the distribution of quality seedlings via certified nurseries and launch sensitization campaigns and exchange programs to revive coffee farming in affected areas.
With a comprehensive roadmap, Meru is set to make coffee farming a sustainable and profitable industry for farmers and the wider community.
