Building Meru Together: Strategic Collaboration With Nebraska And MUST.
The Deputy Governor, H.E. Linda Gakii Kiome, together with development partners from the State of Nebraska, USA, held a meeting with the management of Meru University of Science and Technology, where they engaged in in-depth discussions on how the partnership can benefit students.
On health, the discussions focused on enhancing cancer research to help fight the menace in Meru. This initiative will not only contribute to breaking the disease chain but also build the capacity of the people to adopt safe practices that reduce cancer prevalence.
On agriculture, the partners explored strategies to address the challenge of aflatoxin contamination in maize. They also agreed to collaborate on constructing a feedlot for livestock, which will improve productivity and food security.
On youth empowerment, deliberations centered on developing an exchange program that will equip young people with knowledge and skills, especially in light of the rising challenge of unemployment. Additionally, discussions highlighted how to utilize the County Aggregation and Industrial Park for value addition, enabling farmers to earn more from their produce and enhance export opportunities.
The meeting resolved to develop and sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the County Government of Meru, the State of Nebraska, and Meru University of Science and Technology to chart the way forward.
Under the leadership of H.E. Hon. Rev. Mutuma M’Ethingia, the County Government of Meru remains committed to partnering with like-minded development partners to transform the lives of the people.
