H.E. Governor Rev. Mutuma MEthingia Flags Off Countywide Coffee And Hass Avocado Seedling Distribution

The County Government of Meru remains steadfast in its mission to build a resilient, competitive, and commercially vibrant agricultural sector. The administration is committed to empowering farmers with quality inputs, modern technologies, and reliable market linkages to ensure they derive sustainable wealth from Meru’s fertile lands.

This commitment was put into action as H.E. Governor Rev. Mutuma M’Ethingia led the flag-off of the Countywide Coffee and Hass Avocado Seedling Distribution at the Kaguru Agricultural Training Centre in Nkuene Ward. The initiative represents a direct investment in diversified and climate-smart farming, providing:

  • 130,000 coffee seedlings

  • 66,666 avocado seedlings

  • 22,222 macadamia seedlings

  • 2,800 kilograms of sunflower seed

During the event, the Governor engaged with farmers, emphasizing the importance of high-value crops in securing Meru’s agricultural future. He encouraged the youth to embrace farming as a profitable enterprise, particularly in value chains such as avocado and macadamia.

By planting both indigenous and fruit trees, the County Government continues to combat the adverse effects of climate change, increase tree cover, and unlock new avenues for wealth creation.

Governor M’Ethingia was accompanied by Deputy Governor H.E. Lindah Kiome, CECMs Jenaro Guantai, Dr. Esther Rukunga, Rev. Caroline Kaberia, Hon. Elias Murega, and David Baariu, alongside Members of the County Assembly led by Nkuene Ward MCA Hon. Martin Makasi.
