He emphasized that the Auditor General’s observations-covering unsupported revenue, expenditure controls, staff capacity, asset management, and project implementation-were not viewed as criticism, but as an opportunity to improve governance and service delivery. 1. Key Actions Underway
The County Government is sealing revenue leakages through strict recording, banking, and reporting of all county income. Revenue systems are being digitized, independent reconciliations enhanced, and officer supervision tightened to eliminate unsupported and undisclosed collections.
To prevent spending at source, corrective action is being taken to align the Meru County Alcoholic Drinks Control Act, 2016 with the Public Finance Management Act (PFM Act).
The County Government has paid KSh 931,085,725 in verified pending bills. This action has revived local economies, restored supplier confidence, and supported jobs and businesses across Meru.
Targeted training is underway for finance, procurement, and audit staff to address identified capacity gaps, improve compliance, and ensure timely and efficient financial reporting.
A comprehensive and compliant fixed assets register is being finalized to ensure every public asset is recorded, valued, and safeguarded against misuse or loss.
Through the newly established Efficiency and Monitoring Directorate in the Governor’s Office, all county-funded projects are being tracked to ensure timely completion, quality assurance, and value for money.
The County Government has allocated funds to beacon, document, and secure public land, protecting it from encroachment, illegal allocations, and loss.
