County Government Roots For Sustainable Agriculture To Improve Food Security & Farmer Incomes.

With a great desire for increased agricultural productivity and profitability, County government of Meru has distributed cheques worth about sh. 60 million to support macadamia, avocado & potatoe value chains farmer groups in Tigania East, West, Igembe North and Central Subcounties.

Speaking in Karama and Laare during the issuance of cheques through the National Agricultural & Rural Inclusive Growth Project, (NARIGP) First Lady Priscilla Murungi, asked Meru people to take agriculture seriously for food supply, healthy feeding lifestyles as well as a sure business opportunity. She vouched support for the governor expressing his (Kiraitu) commitment to enhance equity in social economic and political empowerment through regional development

Carol Mutiga, Agriculture Executive, said her department is working to increase food security through capacity building for farmers and promoting sustainable agriculture.

Present were Akithi, Karama, Antuambui & Ntunene MCAs; Dr. Kaithia, Shadrack Kamencu, Jackson Gitonga & Jadiel Mauta respectively, who outlined key development projects the county government has undertaken in their wards in the last three years.

The First Lady was also accompanied by Dr. Eunice Nkirote, Water Executive and Julius Taitumu of Roads who outlined the ministrial plans to increase water distribution and expansion of road networks respectively, this financial.
