H.E. HON. REV. ISAAC MUTUMA M'ETHINGIA GOVERNOR, MERU COUNTY

His Excellency Hon. Rev. Isaac Mutuma M’Ethingia is the 4th Governor of Meru County, officially sworn into office on Monday, 17th March 2025. A seasoned public servant and community leader, Governor M’Ethingia brings a wealth of experience from his background in law enforcement, spiritual leadership, and social advocacy.

He served with distinction as a Senior Officer in the Kenya Prisons Service, where he championed inmate rehabilitation and human rights initiatives. A Reverend in the Methodist Church of Kenya, he has remained deeply committed to moral leadership and community transformation. His service record includes roles as a Child Rights Advocate with Plan International, Youth Representative for Habitat for Humanity (Mt. Kenya Region), and Chair of various community-based institutions. His leadership journey was profoundly influenced by his late father, Mzee Paul M’Ethingia, former Chairman of both the Meru and Kenya Council of Elders.

Governor M’Ethingia holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology from Kenya Methodist University and a Higher Diploma in Forensic Psychology and Criminology from the Kenya Institute of Studies in Criminal Justice. He is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Governance and Ethics at Mount Kenya University, underscoring his dedication to ethical and effective governance.

A strong believer in inclusive leadership, H.E. M’Ethingia appointed H.E. Hon. Lindah Kiome Gitonga as his Deputy Governor-demonstrating his firm commitment to empowering women and promoting gender equality in leadership.


His 10-point development agenda for Meru County focuses on youth and women-centered growth, anchored in key pillars such as, to: conserve and expand the water and natural resources in the County; revitalize agriculture and livestock to ensure food security and agribusiness; build modern roads, infrastructure and energy installations; ensure that the population is healthy and living in a clean environment; promote education, skills development and Early Childhood Development; promote industrialization, trade, tourism and enterprise development to create a vibrant sector; promote sports, culture, arts and youth empowerment; provide decent housing in towns, semi-urban and villages and protect public land; deepen the structures of devolved governance and strengthen the public service to ensure accountability in use of public resources; promote innovation and technological advancement in development.

Governor M’Ethingia’s visionary leadership, grounded in integrity, community service, and strategic governance, continues to steer Meru County toward inclusive and sustainable development.
